Overview

 

The Economic Studies Division covers a broad range of economic issues involving both applied and theoretical research.  Because of the Institute’s emphasis on applied and policy relevant research, the Division uses various projects, programs, and consultancies to address the general issue of development ¾ particularly sustainable, people-centred economic development that takes the needs of future generations into account.

The Division focuses on macroeconomic, microeconomic, and sectoral policies of national development interest that are topical, and require urgent study.  The Division will continue to offer the Institute’s annual Economic Policy Analysis Course, as well as a Project Planning and Management course.

      Specific areas of economic research are:

Focus of the Division   The Economic Studies Division has the capacity to conduct research and carry 

                                     out consultancies in the following areas:

        national, provincial, and district development policies and issues;

        economic and social impact evaluations;

        bullet

        cost-benefit analyses, including the economic evaluation of projects and programs;

        bullet

        agricultural economics and related policies;

        bullet

        commodity and resource development;

        bullet

        fisheries economics;

        bullet

        economic development and planning;

        bullet

        rural economics and related development policies;

        bullet

        environmental economics; and

        bullet

        macroeconomic policy design, evaluation, and monitoring.
