The Publishing Division incorporates the following facilities:

  • publishing and editorial

  • the research library

  • computer operators and secretarial services

  • ICT facility

  • seminar organisation and facilitation

  • The Institute’s printery, and

  • researchers, and journalists visa facilitation and management.

The Division’s contributions to achieving the general objectives of the Institute are:

  • ensuring that academic research which is published by the Institute is of a high, professional standard

  • ensuring that all consultancy reports, submissions by the Institute, and press releases are of a high professional standard

  • ensuring that the results and recommendations arising from the Institute’s research projects and programs are clearly presented in the various publications that are produced and are made available to the relevant authorities and the people of Papua New Guinea

  • providing training for computer operators and divisional research staff in areas such as language, writing, editing, publishing, and data presentation

  • disseminating the Institute’s research findings and recommendations to all relevant organizations, the international academic community , and the people of Papua New Guinea; and

  • facilitating and managing the assessment and awarding of visas for researchers, film-makers, and journalists in conjunction with the Department of Foreign Affairs and other appropriate affiliating and approving agencies.

Focus of the Division      The Division focuses on the provision of the following services:

  • editing, subediting, and proofing of the Institute’s manuscripts, as well as consultancy reports and contract editing

  • providing editorial and publishing expertise in regard to joint publications between NRI and other institutions

  • preparing press releases, NRI Searchlight articles, and other journal articles for the media

  • preparing contracts and memoranda of agreements between the Institute and its clients

  • designing and formatting of the Institute’s publications, promotional materials, business cards, and other internal forms

  • costing the editorial, publishing, and printing aspects of NRI publications and consultancies

  • providing printing and production services to the Institute for internal and consultancy work, and for external contract printing

  • providing advice to research divisions on writing styles and data presentation in relation to specific research projects

  • providing style sheets and parameters for all report formats

  • ensuring that the academic research which is published by the Institute is of a high, professional and academic standard

  • ensuring that the results and recommendations of research are clearly presented in the various publications that are produced and are made available to the authorities and people of Papua New Guinea

  • marketing of the Institute’s publications to effect as wide a dissemination of information, findings, and recommendations as possible

  • maintaining a comprehensive research library of relevant national and international publications and journals; and

  • facilitating the promotion of external researchers, film-makers, and journalists in their interaction with the nation’s social, political, economic, and cultural environments.
