6-8 September 2011, National Research Institute Conference Centre, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea
The Reducing the Cost of Living Research Program under the Wealth Creation Pillar is hosting a three-day Food Security Policy Conference on High Food Prices in Papua New Guinea from 06-08 September 2011 at the National Research Institute.
The conference will look into the issue of food security which in recent years has assumed greater importance especially against the backdrop of rising population and soaring fuel prices. Because food is a basic human need, it requires policy protection from high prices.
The Conference aims to identify and understand the drivers of high food prices in PNG, and will suggest policy options and strategies to counter the high prices and their impacts.
The conference will bring together organized producers, manufacturers and consumers of food. It will also provide a venue for policy makers, decision makers, implementing agenices, academics, donor agencies, and the private sector to interact and identify processes and outcomes that will contribute to lowering food prices in the PNG society.
