The Education Studies Division is focused on the challenge of Universalising Basic Education (UBE) in Papua New Guinea, in order to provide a relevant, quality, affordable and sustainable education system. The division contributes to informed education policy development, through monitoring various education domains and indicators.
The Education Studies Division is regularly engaged in consultancies for national and international universities, government departments and the private sector. The division also places a major focus on accelerating girl's education through a regular column in the Post-Courier newspaper.
Programs and Major Projects
Universal Basic Education
Conducting research and monitoring the Universal Basic Education (UBE) indicators to provide critical baseline data for districts about the status of progress towards UBE.
Teacher Deployment
A collaborative research project to critically assess teacher deployment in primary schools in key provinces.
Student Retention Primary and Secondary Schools
A collaboration with Boards of Management, Boards of Governors, teachers, parents and the school community to identify strategies to keep students in school.
Lihir Five-Year Education Plan
Funded by the Lihir Goldmine Limited, this project addresses the status of education on Lihir Ireland, New Ireland Province.
