The Social and Environmental Studies Division aims to contribute to the long-term sustainability of Papua New Guinean livelihoods and the environments, human resources and diverse cultures on which they depend. This cross-disciplinary division has expertise from the fields of environmental science, demography, anthropology and sociology.

Researching the drivers of the HIV epidemic and the social impact of HIV in PNG. The research program also hosts the Behavioural Surveillance Survey (BSS) Unit.
