Welcome to the NRI library page. This page is currently under development and will soon host the NRI library catalogue.
About the Library
The NRI library is a specialised library which caters for researchers, policy practitioners, scholars and students who are researching areas that focus on Papua New Guinea’s development priorities. The NRI library is currently undergoing a major redevelopment of its services aimed at:
- growing our existing collection of policy-relevant holdings;
- improving access to, and preservation of, research resources through document digitisation; and
- better communications of library resources to policy researchers and practitioners, particularly in the public sector.
The library’s physical infrastructure is also expanding into new and larger premises. This expansion will increase the number of computer workstations available to researchers and will have an enhanced capacity to search major international research databases, utilising the Institute's new, fast broadband connection.
PNG Policy Collection
Central to this expansion is the new PNG Public Policy Collection, which is being developed to hold electronic copies of the Papua New Guinean Government’s policy documents and related public policy reports on key development issues dating back to the beginning of public administration in Papua New Guinea.
Thematic Bibliographies
Thematic bibliographies enable researchers to quickly and conveniently scope the available PNG literature in their areas of interest on themes as diverse as Corruption, Land Reform, Population Studies, Education, Security Issues, Transport and HIV/AIDS.
Post-Courier Index
This index is ideal for media monitoring and background research on public debates and policy issues. The index covers Papua New Guniea's major daily newspaper, the Post-Courier, back to 1972 and is fully cross-referenced.
International Research on PNG
The NRI is also a repository for research that is conducted by international researchers who come to Papua New Guinea, with research interests as diverse as anthropology, linguistics and the natural sciences. It is a condition for those persons who come to PNG on research visas to lodge copies of their final work with NRI, thus generating an invaluable resource that is held by the NRI library. |
