Business and Consultancy Project Office

The NRI Business and Consultancy Project Office (BCPO) is responsible for the management of the NRI Conference Centre facility, Waigani Lodge, contract printing, and the development, management and coordination of consultancy projects and programs. It also provides visa liaison services for overseas researchers.

Staff
The head of the BCPO is Mr. Jim Robins and the Personal Assistant and BCPO Secretary is Ms. Georgia Kaipu. Other ancillary staff include the Printshop Manager (Mr. Siling Geatulu), Publications Sales Coordinator (Mr. Naime Onea), Cafetaria Manager (to be appointed), Facilities Preparation Officer (Mr. Aliga Nagua), and Waigani Lodge Caretaker (Mrs. Mouga Bagawi).

Goals and Objectives

The main goals and objectives of the Business and Consultancy Project Office (BCPO) are to:

  • establish, develop, and maintain a Business and Consultancy Project Office to seek and maximise access to research funding;
  • initiate, broker, and develop research proposals that are in line with the Institute's Strategic Plan and which will address areas of national development priorities and concerns;
  • prepare bids for the provision of consultancy services in line with the proposed Terms of Reference of identified consultancy projects, some of which may be independent of the government's priorities;
  • develop and maintain partnerships and linkages with national government agencies, Papua New Guinean, and international donor and research organisations, non-government organisations, and the private sector to assist in efforts to gain access to and raise funds;
  • develp and Ethics in Research Policy to enhance the Institute's status to apply for research consultancy awards; and
  • develop and manage a business plan for the effective promotion and utilisation of the Institute's infrastructure facilities and services.

Operational Objectives

The main operational objectives of the BCPO are to:

  • develop and maintain a database of NRI researchers, their relevant areas of expertise, and their CVs;
  • develop and maintain a database of Papua New Guinean-based researchers, their areas of expertise, and their CVs;
  • develop and maintain a database of overseas researchers who have undertaken, are undertaking, or are colloborating on research projects, activities, or development areas in Papua New Guinea;
  • liaise with and assist NRI researchers in relation to the planning, management, budgeting, implementation, and associated logistics of consultancy projects that have been offered or are being negotiated by the Institute;
  • develop and maintain promotional and management procedures and records for the efficient utilisation of the Institute's conference, cafetaria, Waigani Lodge, and Bookshop infrastructure facilities;
  • maintain sound financial procedures for, and records of, consultancy and infrastructure utilisation activities, in keeping with client and NRI requirements and standards;
  • provide project visa liaison services, and general institutional immigration services for visiting research fellows, overseas researchers, consultancy project researchers, and institutional staff;
  • ensure that conference facilities and other service infrastructure are maintained at a high standard and are prepared in a timely manner for all users;
  • ensure that conference ICT facilities are provided for clients, as requested, and that all hardware and software are maintained in a register and in working order; and
  • develop a Prospectus and marketing agreement for the operation and/or lease of the Institute's Cafetaria and Bookshop facilities.
